Melanie's photographic practice is concerned with expressing universal themes from a personal perspective. Much of her current work is focused on memory, transitions, guilt and responsibility.
Her approach is traditionally based, often utilising all aspects of film but encompassing digital techniques to enhance or finalise images. Her more recent work denotes a shift from the transience of image projection within multi-media performances to the permanence of printed work.
Her multimedia work developed through a range of collaborations with critically acclaimed composer Malcolm Lindsay and musicians from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, as well as with established authors Janice Galloway and Bernard McLaverty, poet Ronnie Kerr, performer Richard Jobson and the Moscow Contemporary Ensemble. She has also undertaken portraiture, landscape, publicity and commercial work, and her images have been reproduced in a range of publications and newspapers.
Melanie is also a book maker, often utilising this form for art activism. She has created a number of 'message books' to protest or campaign on issues of social concern.
Melanie is currently based in Glasgow, Scotland.
